$25,000 raised at the 2023 Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic!

Trico Centre hosted its first golf tournament in ten years as part of its year-long 40th anniversary celebration, raising approximately $25,000 that will be put back into programming, equipment, and other resources at the facility.

The 2023 Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic took place on Thursday, June 29th, at Blue Devil Golf Course located in the community of Chapparal. 65 golfers participated in the fun and festivities, teeing off in teams of three and four at 8 am sharp. The Classic’s sponsors hosted several activities located all over the course that kept the teams entertained and their stomachs full.

After 18 holes, three teams were tied at the top of the leaderboard, so the winners were decided in a sudden-death cornhole tournament. When the final tosses were recorded, the first-place winner was crowned: Spartan Hockey won the 2023 Classic, followed by MST Portfolio Management and the foursome led by Trico Centre member Dion Kostiuk.

Other in-game competitions included the hole in one contest, the closest to the pin contest, and the longest putt contest. The par-5 15th hole was hosted by professional long driver Michael Flaherty, who launched balls down the fairway in awe-inspiring fashion for every team who donated to the Trico Cares fund.

Additional funds were raised at the Classic’s silent auction that took place during the post-game luncheon. Prizes were donated by 50 businesses and groups, with the proceeds of the auction to be matched by up to 50% through Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink later this summer. The competition for some items, including a Bo Bichette autographed baseball bat and a Hotel Arts staycation package, was just as fierce as the action on the golf course.

The 2023 Classic was a huge success due to the participation and charity of the golfers, its sponsors, and its donors. As a not-for profit organization, Trico Centre relies on the support of local groups and businesses to help it provide health, wellness, and recreation programs and initiatives to the community.
