The 2024 Trico Centre Charity Golf Classic was held on June 27th and was a fantastic success, raising at least $40,000 that will be put back into innovative programming, new equipment, and other important resources for our facility. Spartan Hockey led the way again this year, winning the 2024 Classic by three shots over Rocky Mountain Solar, while Stealth Alarms finished in third place.
Blue Devil Golf Course, located in the community of Chapparal, hosted the event for the second consecutive year. 132 golfers participated in the fun and festivities, nearly doubling the field of 69 golfers that played in 2023. The Classic’s sponsors hosted several activities located all over the course that kept the teams entertained and their stomachs full, courtesy of the Carriage House Inn, Craft Beer Market Southcentre, and Spolumbos.
The par-5 15th hole was once again hosted by professional long driver Michael Flaherty, who launched balls down the fairway in awe-inspiring fashion for every player and team who donated to the Trico Cares fund, which helps subsidize participation in our Children and Youth programs. Other in-game competitions included the closest to the pin contest, the longest putt contest, and the hole in one contest hosted by Trico Centre, which also featured a “longest marshmallow drive” competition to help loosen the players up.
Additional funds were raised during the Classic’s 50/50 draw, raffle, and silent auction that took place during the post-game luncheon. Prizes were donated by 90 businesses and groups, and proceeds from the auction will be matched by up to 50% through Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink later this fall. The raffle prize included two weekend passes to Country Thunder Alberta and a staycation package at Hotel Arts, and the bidding was fierce as golfers bid on a variety of incredible items and gift certificates from the Calgary Stampede, the Toronto Blue Jays, Stage West Calgary, and many other generous donors.
The final fundraising amount will be determined later this year after all the eligible proceeds are submitted and matched by Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink. The success of this event is only made possible by the generosity and commitment to our facility by the golfers, its sponsors, and its donors, many of whom are also members of Trico Centre. As a not-for profit organization, Trico Centre relies on the support of local groups and businesses to help it provide health, wellness, and recreation programs and initiatives to the community.
We are extremely grateful to our returning Classic sponsors (Advantage Heating, Bow Valley Hockey Society, Carriage House Inn, CBI Health, Centaur Products, D’Angelo Photography, Pete the Plumber, Startec, Symanczyk Thirlwall Advisory Group, and Trico Homes) and this year’s new sponsors (A Clark Roofing and Siding, Craft Beer Market Southcentre, Creative Mechanical Service, Double R Building Products, EFS Clean, Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, Lake Bonavista Community Association, Rocky Mountain Solar Company, Spolumbos, Stealth Alarms, Sugimoto & Company, TipTop Plumbing and Heating, and Virtuo).
