This year, Trico Centre is one of the charities that will be helped by the Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink program.
Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink is a non-profit program under the Calgary Shaw Charity Classic Foundation. This program is designed to help raise new funds for local charities, engage the community in the tournament, and provide matching funds for each charity involved. Over the years, the Shaw Charity Classic has raised over $93 million dollars for over 260 children and youth charities across Alberta.
From March 1 to August 31, all donations made to Trico Centre (through our Birdies for Kids page) will be matched up to 50%. All administrative costs are covered by the tournament, meaning 100% of every donation will go directly to Trico Centre, specifically our Skill Builder program. This encompasses approximately 40 inclusive programs for children ages 5-14 that reach, teach, and support mental health and overall physical, emotional, and intellectual development. The Skill Builder program focuses on the “entire” child, and at this time, we are the only Calgary-based recreation facility to offer this time of programming. Increased funding will help us purchase social and/or emotional resources for these programs (books, games, hands-on tools, and equipment).
