We’re excited to announce that Trico Centre for Family Wellness has once again partnered with The City of Calgary to deliver our Discover YYC summer day camp – an immersive experience that helps youth explore Calgary with confidence, independence, and curiosity.
Thanks to the generous support of Calgary Transit, Discover YYC campers, leaders in training, and leaders will receive free access to regular bus and CTrain services during their camp week. This partnership not only opens doors to Calgary’s most iconic locations but also gives campers valuable skills in navigating the city’s public transit system safely and respectfully.
This year, Trico Centre has run two week-long Discover YYC camps in July and we have another one coming in August for youth ages 11–14. Throughout the week, participants explore local landmarks like the Calgary Tower, The Confluence, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, Prince’s Island Park, the Hexagon Board Game Cafe, St. Mary’s University for frisbee golf, while also venturing into lesser-known gems in Calgary’s surrounding neighbourhoods.
The program goes beyond sightseeing – it includes interactive learning with Calgary Transit Peace Officers and Travel Trainers. Campers receive hands-on lessons in fare payment, route planning, bike mounting, and transit safety.
As a non-profit community facility, Trico Centre is proud to work alongside the City of Calgary to offer programs that support youth independence, community connection, and wellness. Discover YYC continues to be a great example of how collaborative partnerships can help build confidence and life skills in the next generation.
