Trico Centre is pleased to offer a variety of lifesaving and leadership courses throughout the year. Our currently available courses are listed at the bottom of this page. If you do not see a session that works for you, we recommend signing up for email notifications so you will be alerted when new courses are posted.
These courses are the foundation of a career in aquatics, providing the core knowledge and skills needed to progress through advanced certifications.
Bronze Medallion
Bronze Medallion challenges candidates both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness are the four key components of water rescue and form the basis of Bronze Medallion training. Candidates develop assessment and problem-solving skills to make effective decisions in, on, and around the water.
Prerequisites: Bronze Star (need not be current) or a minimum age of 13 years at the start of the course.
Bronze Cross
Bronze Cross marks the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as assistant lifeguards. Candidates build on their rescue skills and begin applying the principles of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross also emphasizes teamwork and communication to help prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. It is a prerequisite for advanced training, including the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.
Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion (need not be current) and current Alberta Approved First Aid Training Agency CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid.
